Spa F.A.Q.s
Why do you use organic/wildcrafted/natural products?
We use Organic, Wildcrafted and Natural products because we have found that it is the healthiest approach to help our clients reach their skincare goals without the use of harmful artificial fragrances, pesticides, parabens, dyes or other unsafe chemicals.
Why do I have to sign a consent form?
To ensure the safety of your treatment and to let your Technologist know the boundaries of your facial.
What happens in a facial?
Before a facial you have an in depth skin analysis to determine the type of skin you have. Your facial is tailored to your skin type. Your skin is cleansed thoroughly, yet gently to remove dirt and oil. Next, your skin is exfoliated; the type of exfoliation will vary based on your skin concerns and skin type. A balancing and purifying mask is then applied for maximum skin benefits. Skin is toned before a serum application is performed with a relaxing and invigorating massage. Massage ensures that the serums applied are penetrating deep into your pores by increasing circulation and lymphatic drainage. A natural sunscreen with SPF is applied if requested to protect you from sun damage upon leaving your appointment.
How long does a facial take?
Depending on the chosen treatment anywhere from thirty to sixty minutes or more.
What is an Enzyme Exfoliant?
An enzyme exfoliant is similar to that of a peel, but without the need of a harsh chemical substance. We use natural plant based enzymes, which help break down and digest the dead skin so that new skin can rise to the surface.
Will I break out after a facial?
You should not experience a breakout after a facial unless you are acne prone and your skin breaks out on a regular basis. You cannot get acne from having a facial. If you do happen to be acne prone, the use of a facial massage will help to bring sebum to the surface so that with your next facial treatment we are able to remove more black heads and white heads. If beginning a new skincare regimen after your facial, persistance and patience are key; skin needs time to turn over, but apparent results are usually within 1-4weeks, some times longer due to medical factors such as medication or immune deficiency.
Should I wash my face before a facial?
You may cleanse the night before, but please do not wash your face the day of your treatment. You will also not wash your face the night of your treatment, and it is recommended that no makeup is worn after your facial until after that night’s sleep.
Can I wear makeup after a facial?
It is recommended that you not wear makeup after your facial, but if you must, it is recommended that healthy breathable makeup be used and your brushes / sponges / hands be clean (if you do wear makeup after your facial, please remove it gently before bed).
I have a skin disorder can I have a facial?
A skin disorder such as acne, psoriasis or rosacea may have a facial, in fact there are numerous organic, natural ingredients that have been known to help these conditions; please feel free to obtain clearance from a dermatologist prior to having a facial with us.
I have recently had a filler injection can I receive a facial?
If your filler injections have happened within the last two weeks you shall not have a facial.
How long do facial results last?
Facial results can last up to 4 weeks with proper use of the prescribed skin care regimen.
How many facials should I have?
In a perfect world, facials should be once every month, but once per season is the minimum recommendation. Bi-weekly is encouraged for those looking for accelerated results and for those treating a particular condition (weekly may even be recommended for severe forms of acne, eczema or psoriasis).
I have sensitive skin can I have a facial?
Facials are meant to treat and help all skin types. We have numerous organic ingredients, which can be used on even the most sensitive skin.
I have acne scars and a few blemishes. Can facials help me?
Facials with brightening agents, and enzyme peels/exfoliants all have the effects of helping to fade away past acne scars. There are numerous organic and natural ingredients, which are gentle, yet very effective for blemishes. Facial massage helps break up scar tissue and improve circulation, which leads to tissue healing. The use of high frequency oxygen/ozone therapy can help speed up the process. Radio Frequency is also offered by Revolutions and can be helpful with more severe scarring to rebuild collagen and elastin.
What is High Frequency therapy?
A high frequency neon filled glass wand is utilized for clients needing assistance with acne or sagging skin and to avoid harsh chemicals; high frequency therapy produces ozone and oxygen between the wand and the skin to provide numerous skin benefits. High frequency therapy has been shown to enhance blood circulation as well as increase collagen and elastin production. It has also been shown to eliminate toxins and acne-causing bacteria, encourage lymphatic drainage, exfoliate dead skin cells and improve skin care product absorption.
How old should you be for a facial?
As soon as puberty is reached one can begin to have facials. Revolutions recommends that those under 16 years of age receive the permission of a guardian to obtain a facial. By starting a skin regimen early in life, our younger clients can be taught how to properly care for their skin and to benefit from this knowledge as they grow into their skin.
I currently have permanent makeup can I have a facial?
You may have a treatment as long as your permanent makeup was not recently applied.
Can I work out after my facial?
You can work out after a gentle cleansing facial, but it is not recommended with more resurfacing treatments due to increased redness and sweating.
Are there any other things I can do to have great skin?
Here are Ten Steps to Gorgeous and Glowing Skin
Reduce stress: Stress hormones rob our skin of its nourishing blood supply, create free radicals, and depress the immune system, disturbing the skin's balance and appearance. As you learn to relax, your skin cells will follow suit. Happy thoughts create happy cells in the body. Visualize beautiful skin. Meditate, breathe deeply, dance, or do whatever it takes to relax, renew, and reinvigorate yourself.
Breathe deeply: Deep healing breath-work is definitely a face-friendly activity. Approximately seven percent of the oxygen we inhale is used directly by the skin. Also a great reason for regular physical activity - you'll simply glow!
Eat right: A varied diet with a balance of proteins, complex carbs, good fats, and plenty of natural antioxidants provides the daily requirements to generate healthy skin. High-quality protein helps skin growth and regeneration. Eat veggies and fruits in abundance, along with whole grains, legumes, nuts, a bit of organic/ free-range poultry and fish (particularly those rich in omega 3's, like salmon,) and low-fat dairy.
Supplement your diet: Every day, take a high quality multi-vitamin with anti-oxidants, and omega 3's in the form of fish, krill, or flaxseed oil, along with at least two 500 mg capsules of borage or evening primrose oil. Your skin and hair will benefit immensely.
Get rid of the bad stuff: Eliminate foods that spike blood sugar levels, especially anything made from white flour and white sugar, both inflammatory for the skin. You can also do your skin a world of good by reducing saturated fats (eat organic, grass-fed if possible) and avoiding artificial ingredients and chemical pollutants. Alcohol, caffeine, and spicy foods can decrease barrier function and increase skin reactivity and inflammation.
Wear sun protection: Although limited sun "baths" (early morning or late afternoon) can be valuable for our body's metabolization of vitamin D, sun exposure is the number one cause of premature skin aging and wrinkles. One of the best ways to protect the skin is to wear a moisturizing sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher. Choose one that blocks both UVA and UVB rays and preferably contains zinc or titanium oxide.
Stop smoking: Smoking is a major cause of massive skin damage (not to mention acute health issues!), severely compromising the skin's ability to repair and rejuvenate itself. Try to create a powerful visualization around releasing this habit for good. See a hypnotist, therapist, get the patch - do whatever it takes to stop smoking. Remember that one puff of a cigarette creates over a billion free radicals in your body. Very toxic indeed!
Bathe in moisture: Water is the cheapest and most effective skin moisturizer, bar none, so drink up. It's absolutely essential for proper hydration, keeping the skin moist and plumped, supple, soft, and clear. It improves the skin's barrier function and helps the skin resist environmental aggressions. It even plumps out fine lines and prevents age spots. Drink eight to 10 glasses of purified or filtered water every day, without fail.
Get physical: Exercise exerts hormone-balancing effects on our skin. It also benefits the skin by increasing blood circulation, which provides nutrition to the skin cells; helps in expelling toxins, controls stress; and promotes deep revitalizing sleep.
Get rest: Your body needs adequate amounts of sleep. When you sleep, your entire body is busy regenerating, renewing, and rebuilding cellular tissue.
